How Does Atrial Fibrillation Feel?

Although atrial fibrillation is not usually life-threatening, people experience a variety of symptoms. Some people may have atrial fibrillation for years and not even know it. If you have symptoms, however, you may feel:

  • Heart palpitations (a sudden pounding, fluttering, or racing feeling in the chest)
  • Lack of energy; feeling over-tired, weak or fatigued
  • Dizziness (feeling faint or light-headed)
  • Chest discomfort (pain, pressure, or discomfort in the chest)
  • Shortness of breath (difficulty breathing during normal activities or even at rest)
  • Decreased ability to do normal activities
